I am passionate about efficiency. I crave new information and am always looking for new ways to take in information more efficiently while not being distracted from what matters most.
But therein lies the rub: With so much information out there, it is super easy to get sidetracked (to put it mildly). Even I—an efficiency expert—get sucked into the vortex of the Web. You know what I mean: You are reading an e-mail or an interesting article; there is a link in the e-mail or article to another article; you click on the link and off you go, down the rabbit hole of the Internet. Fifteen minutes and eight web pages later, you realize how much time has passed as you try to get back to work.
Well, I just discovered a genius app called Instapaper that will help keep you focused. This $4.99 app places a button on your Web browser. Whenever you come across an article you want to read you simply click the button “Read Later.” Instapaper pulls the article and all relevant links (and no advertisements!) into a file.
Then, when you want, you simply open the window and all the articles are stored neatly, awaiting your reading. I love it!
But there’s more to this genius little app: Instapaper resists your distractions. If you are reading an article on Instapaper and click on a link within that article, Instapaper asks you if you want to read it now or read this later. No rabbit holes!
Instapaper is a brilliant resource that allows you to capture important resources and to stay on focus. And I am all for that.
